Sea Spells

Sea Spells

I made sea shells into earrings
To bring you home to me
I’ve whispered to the sea gulls
To bring you home to me
I pleaded with the herring
To bring you home to me
Each morning I’ve drunk saltwater
To bring you home to me

I’ve chewed on Dead Man’s Fingers
To bring you home to me
I’ve fed Badderlocks to children
To bring you home to me
I made a dress of Irish Moss
To bring you home to me
And I rolled around the stony beach
To bring you home to me

I washed my hair in pollock roe
To bring you home to me
I’ve clipped the wings of arctic terns
To bring you home to me
I wear the beaks of kittiwakes
To bring you home to me
At night I wail from high cliff tops
To bring you home to me

All the seals I’ve clubbed to death
And bled into the sea
To draw from the cold water
Some type of guarantee
And now I sit at our window
Trying to foresee, and
Wondering have I done enough
To bring you home to me

Coconut Water

Coconut Water

Coconut water
it’s fresh isn’t it.
I like drinking coconut
water while I’m sitting on a chair
on a park bench drinking coconut water
on a plastic desk chair drinking coconut water.

I like sitting on a wooden chair
drinking coconut water. Thinking about my eyeballs
drinking coconut water. Thinking about my eyeballs
rolling back in my head like a
drunk ship. Tipping and sinking down
past the organs and bones of
my body.

I like drinking coconut water
skin on skin on my leather arm chair
skin on skin getting sticky on my leather
arm chair. Thinking about my spine and
and ribcage from the inside. Thinking about
my pelvis from the inside. Thinking about
my eyeballs sinking down through my body
and settling on the boney bed of my pelvis.

I like drinking coconut water
on my silver grey disco stool.
Sitting upright, shoulders back on my
silver grey disco stool. Thinking of my
pelvis as a bone white beach. My eyeballs
resting on a bone white beach. No horizon.
resting on a bone white beach under a
grilling sun.

I like sitting on a bone white beach
no chair, no horizon. Sitting on my bum
on a bone white beach. Lifting my face
and filling my eye sockets with
the grilling sun. No chair. No horizon.
